Wenn man ihm zuhört, könnte man fast meinen, es sei eine leichte Aufgabe gewesen. Doch die Wahrheit ist, dass es, gelinde gesagt, einen großen finanziellen und persönlichen Aufwand erfordert, über 35 Jahre lang mehr als 150 Oldtimer im Keller seines eigenen Hauses zu horten. Doch Pepe Moreno ist stolz, seinem Traum von einem eigenen Museum einen Schritt näher gekommen zu sein.
Al escucharle hablar, casi se pudiera pensar que ha resultado una tarea fácil pero lo cierto es que atesorar en los bajos de su propia casa más de 150 vehículos de época durante más de 35 años requiere cuanto menos de un gran esfuerzo en lo económico y personal, pero Pepe Moreno se siente orgulloso de estar a un paso de conseguir alcanzar su sueño, abrir su propio museo.
Listening to him, you might almost think it's been an easy task, but the truth is that hoarding more than 150 vintage vehicles in the basement of his own home for over 35 years requires, to say the least, a great financial and personal effort. But Pepe Moreno is proud to be one step away from achieving his dream of opening his own museum.

Der aus Granada, ursprünglich aus Murtas stammende und seit Jahrzehnten in El Ejido lebende Mann öffnet erneut die Türen des Lagerhauses, in dem er diese im Laufe seines Lebens erworbenen Oldtimer und Motorräder wie wahre Schätze aufbewahrt. Er pflegt sie, tunt sie und gibt ihnen ihre wahre Schönheit zurück, so wie ein Künstler ein Meisterwerk schafft. „Ich kann mich nicht für ein einziges entscheiden; sie sind alle etwas Besonderes; ich mag sie alle“, gesteht der Mann, der 27 Jahre lang auch eine bekannte Karosserie- und Lackierwerkstatt in der Gemeinde El Ejido besaß.
Este granadino natural de Murtas y afincado desde hace décadas en El Ejido, abriendo de nuevo las puertas de la nave en la que guarda como auténticos tesoros, estos automóviles y motocicletas antiguos adquiridos a lo largo de toda una vida, los cuales cuida, pone a punto y les devuelve su verdadera belleza, de igual modo que el artista crea una obra maestra. «No puedo elegir solo uno, todos son especiales, a todos les tengo cariño», confiesa quien tuviera además durante 27 años un conocido taller de chapa y pintura en el municipio ejidense.
This Granada native, originally from Murtas and based in El Ejido for decades, is once again opening the doors of the warehouse where he keeps these vintage cars and motorcycles, acquired over a lifetime, like true treasures. He cares for them, tunes them up, and restores their true beauty, just as an artist creates a masterpiece. "I can't choose just one; they're all special; I'm fond of them all," confesses the man who also owned a well-known body and paint shop in the municipality of El Ejido for 27 years.

„Mein Interesse wurde geweckt, als ich 1969 in der Schweiz arbeitete. Damals fielen mir die Chevrolets der Chefs auf, und da entdeckte ich meine Leidenschaft“, erinnert sich Moreno. Sein erstes Auto erwarb er jedoch erst in den 1980er-Jahren, „einen Adler Trumpf Junior von 1932, den ich völlig zerstört vorfand und dessen Restaurierung fast fünf Jahre dauerte“, erklärt er. Der älteste Wagen sei allerdings „ein Renault von 1902“, fügt er schnell hinzu. Ebenfalls ausgestellt sind ein Buick Cabrio-Sportwagen von 1920, der seiner Aussage nach „120 Kilometer pro Stunde erreichen kann“, sowie ein modernerer Cadillac aus den 1970er-Jahren und ein Ford Capri. Dieses Quasi-Museum, das 2014 zu einem Museum wird, ist ebenfalls ein Highlight.
«Mi interés nació cuando trabajaba en Suiza en el año 1969, fue en ese momento cuando empecé a fijarme en los Chevrolet de los patrones, ahí empecé a darme cuenta de mi pasión», recuerda Moreno. Sin embargo, no fue hasta los años 80 cuando adquirió su primer automóvil, «un Adler Trumpf Junior de 1932 que encontré totalmente destrozado y que tardé casi cinco años en poder restaurar», concreta. Aunque el más antiguo «es un Renault de 1902», se apresura a añadir. También un deportivo Buick descapotable de 1920 que asegura «alcanza los 120 kilómetros por hora», o un Cadillac más moderno de los 70 y un Ford Capri destacan en este casi museo que a partir de 2014 lo será de hecho.
"My interest was sparked when I was working in Switzerland in 1969. It was then that I began to notice the bosses' Chevrolets, and that's when I began to realize my passion," Moreno recalls. However, it wasn't until the 1980s that he acquired his first car, "a 1932 Adler Trumpf Junior that I found completely wrecked and that took me almost five years to restore," he explains. Although the oldest "is a 1902 Renault," he is quick to add. Also on display are a 1920 Buick convertible sports car that he claims "can reach 120 kilometers per hour," along with a more modern Cadillac from the 1970s and a Ford Capri. This quasi-museum, which will become a museum in 2014, is also a highlight.

„Ich wollte dieses Projekt schon seit vielen Jahren vorantreiben. Bisher habe ich nur Fahrzeuge für Hochzeiten und besondere Anlässe vermietet und auch einige Führungen organisiert. Aber ich wollte meine Sammlung allen Einwohnern und Touristen übersichtlicher zugänglich machen und sie in ein Museum verwandeln“, erklärt er. Deshalb freut er sich über das Interesse der Stadtverwaltung. „Sie haben mir ihre Zusammenarbeit angeboten, und regelmäßig hilft mir ein städtischer Techniker bei der Katalogisierung der Fahrzeuge“, erklärt er. So können individuelle Sammlungen mit Merkmalen, Baujahren sowie Informationen und interessanten Fakten zu jedem der Autos und Motorräder erstellt werden, die dieses Museum bilden werden.
«Llevo muchos años queriendo sacar adelante este proyecto, hasta ahora lo que sí ofrezco es alquiler de vehículos para bodas y ocasiones especiales y además organizo algunas visitas, pero tenía ganas de poder compartir mi colección con todos los vecinos y turistas de una forma más organizada convirtiéndolo en un museo», aclara. Por eso, agradece el interés que le ha mostrado el Ayuntamiento ya que como explica, «se han ofrecido a colaborar, y periódicamente hay un técnico municipal que me ayuda a catalogar los vehículos», señala, de modo que se puedan recoger de forma individual las características, año de fabricación, así como información y curiosidades sobre cada uno de los automóviles y motocicletas que conformarán este museo.

So far, I've only offered vehicle rentals for weddings and special occasions, and I also organize some tours, but I wanted to be able to share my collection with all the residents and tourists in a more organized way, turning it into a museum," he explains. For this reason, he appreciates the City Council's interest. As he explains, "They've offered to collaborate, and periodically there's a municipal technician who helps me catalog the vehicles," he points out. This allows for individual collections of characteristics, year of manufacture, as well as information and interesting facts about each of the cars and motorcycles that will make up this museum.

„Viele Einwohner von El Ejido wissen zwar, dass ich hier Oldtimer habe, aber ich möchte, dass meine eigenen Einwohner diese Oldtimersammlung genauso genießen können wie Besucher aus anderen Teilen der Provinz, wie zum Beispiel Roquetas de Mar, und sogar ausländische Touristen.“ Er stellt außerdem klar, dass es ihm nicht darum geht, der Öffentlichkeit einen überhöhten Eintrittspreis abzuverlangen, sondern vielmehr „einen angemessenen Preis festzulegen, damit es erschwinglich ist.“
«La verdad es que muchos ejidenses saben que aquí tengo coches antiguos pero me gustaría que igual que vienen visitantes de otros puntos de la provincia como Roquetas de Mar, e incluso turistas extranjeros, que mis propios vecinos pudieran disfrutar de esta colección de vehículos de época». Él además lo tiene claro, su intención no es poner al público una entrada excesiva sino «fijar un precio razonable para que pueda resultar asequible».
"The truth is that many residents of El Ejido know that I have vintage cars here, but I'd like my own residents to be able to enjoy this collection of vintage vehicles, just as visitors from other parts of the province, like Roquetas de Mar, and even foreign tourists, come." He is also clear that his intention is not to charge the public an excessive entrance fee, but rather "to set a reasonable price so that it can be affordable."
